New Cardura™ Monomer Capacity Coming on Line in Asia
Hexion recently announced construction of a manufacturing plant in Onsan, Korea, to produce Cardura monomer. Cardura-containing resins are a high solid, low viscosity option for improving the appearance, hydrophobicity and durability of automotive clear coats, coil coatings, and plastic coatings. The Onsan investment will help Hexion meet current global demand and assure supply of this key ingredient for environmentally advanced coatings.

Hexion to Produce VeoVa™ Monomer in ChinaIn March, Hexion signed a joint venture with Shanxi Sanwei Group Co., Ltd. to build a plant in China to significantly increase VeoVa monomer capacity. VeoVa monomer is a key building block ingredient used in water-based acrylic and vinyl coatings, redispersible powdered mortar admixtures and adhesives. It is known for adding alkali, water and UV resistance. The facility, which will increase global VeoVa capacity by 30 percent, is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2011. |

Ever more restrictive VOC regulations are placing challenges on coating formulators to maintain the performance of existing products while complying with new rules. In many cases, they’re turning to additives for answers. At ACS 2010, Hexion will showcase the advantages of polymerically building a wide range of properties into their coatings via Versatic monomers. Visit us at Booth #1542. |

VeoCryl Versus Conventional Acrylic Coatings
Sometimes a picture tells a thousand words. VeoVa-containing acrylic binders are simply more water-repellant than standard acrylic emulsions… along with having lots of other high-performance properties.

Cardura Monomer: The Route to Low Viscosity, Low VOC Acrylic ResinsUsing Cardura monomer as a reactive solvent in the preparation of acrylic resins allows for reduced solvent and higher solid resins. Cardura monomer also produces lower viscosity acrylic resins because its bulky structure limits the chain interactions of hydrogen bonding. |

Wood Stains Based on VeoVa/Acrylic Polymer Outperform Other Systems in CATAS Testing

Who says you have to sacrifice performance for compliance to stricter emission levels? Waterborne exterior wood stains and masonry paints that utilize VeoVa monomer deliver greater durability and resistance to weathering than traditional systems in recent EN 927-6 tests conducted by the CATAS Institute.
